๐ Suwon Nammun Market
Suwon Nammun Market, with its 220-year history, is known as the only market in Korean history that was organized by a monarch. King Jeongjo of Chosun summoned merchants from 3 Southern provinces and Seoul, created a new market in Suwon after granting the right to distribute ginseng and gat, traditional Korean hat, emphasizing the significance of active economy.
Currently, Nammun Market retains the largest size in Korea, in affiliation with 9 markets around the region. From Tool Markets in Gucheon-Dong, Nammun Rodeo Market, 1st Fashion Avenue and Citizenโs Markets that specialize in clothing items, Yeongdong Market that deals with Korean traditional costumes and Paldalmoon Market, famous for its Tongdak district, all participating markets have their own personality.
๐Korean Folk Village
Korean Folk Village introduces traditional culture from the late Joseon period to both local and international visitors through cultural classes experience, shaman faith, seasonal customs and others. It recreated the past through the restoration of houses from the Joseon dynasty.
Performances including nongak (farmerโs music), martial arts on horseback, traditional wedding ceremony, and other special events are available by season. In particular, "Welcome to Joseon," an event held every May, takes visitors back to the past. In addition, a family-friendly theme park equipped with 15 exciting attractions is also available. Visitors can also try various Korean foods at the market street.
