๐ Tomb of King Sejong the Great ๐
The royal tomb named Yeongneung is the joint tomb of the fourth ruler of the Joseon dynasty,
King Sejong and his wife Queen Soheon.
King Sejong is regarded as the greatest and wisest monarch in the history of Korea.
King Sejong created the Korean alphabet hangeul, invented scientific instruments,
such as the rain gauge and sundial.
He is also known for arranging royal music scores, conquering the outlaws in the north to expand
the country's frontier, and subjugating Tsushima Island to stabilize national defenses.
Using Confucian principles to administer state affairs, he prioritized academic values,
fostering scholars and renovating the print system to publish countless books.
Under the reign of King Sejong, therefore, many sectors including politics, economy, and society
and culture flourished.
The tomb is a great example of the burial system of the Joseon dynasty, with two tombstones
showing that it is a combined burial site, stone rails along the perimeter of the graves,
