Saseongam Hermitage, located on Osan Mountain in Gurye,
is a fine vantage point from which to admire the panoramic view of the Seomjingang River,
the seven myeons (townships) of Gurye-eup, and the peaks of Jirisan Mountain.
It forms part of a harmonious, beautiful landscape along with the rocks and peaks of Osan Mountain.
๐ณ Gurye Event ๐ณ
Gurye is a small, picturesque farming town situated between Jirisan and the Seomjin River.
In the northeastern part of unwavering efforts at the Mt. Jiri.
Gurye is the sole designated special tourism and leisure zone in all of Jeollanam-do.
๐๏ธ Gurye Hwaumsa Temple ๐๏ธ
Hwaeomsa Temple is located 5.4 km east of Gurye-eup, at the foot of Jiri Mountain, which is considered a sacred site of the Korean people. It was founded in 544 AD (the 22nd year of King Seong of Baekje) by the monk Yeongi, and its name is derived from the "Hwaeom" (่ฏๅด) in the Hwaeomgyeong (Flower Garland Sutra). Initially, only the Haehwa Hall and the Daeungjeon Hall were built, but in 643 AD (the 12th year of Queen Seondeok), the temple was expanded by the monk Jajang. Further expansions were made in 875 AD (the 1st year of King Heongang of Silla) by the monk Doseon. The temple was destroyed by fire during the Imjin War, but in 1630 AD (the 8th year of King Injo), the monk Byeokam began rebuilding it, completing the restoration in 1636 AD (the 14th year of King Injo).
