Gangwondo has 7 main cities and 11 counties. The capital city of Gangwondo is Chuncheon.
The main cities of Gangwondo is: Wonju, Chuncheon, Gangneun, Donghae Sokcho, Samcheok and Taebaek. Gangwondo’s 11 counties are: Hongcheon, Cherwon, Hoengseong, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Yeongwol, Inje, Goseong, Yangyang, Hwacheon and Yanggu.

Gangwondo is famous for having hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics. The competition was held in Pyeongchang.
In 2024 Gangwon will once again host the Olympics, this time it’s the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics.

The landscape of Gangwondo is very mountainous. The Taebaek Mountains stretches along the eastern edge of South Korea,
all the way into North Korea. The highest mountains in the mountain range are Mount Seoraksan (1,708 m),
Mount Kumgangsan (1,638 m), Mount Taebaeksan (1,566.7 m) and Mount Odaesan (1,563 m).

Some of the food Gangwondo is famous for is Chuncheon Dak galbi (stir fried spicy chicken with cabbage),
Chuncheon Makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles., Hongcheon Memil buchim (Buckwheat rolls),
Sokcho Dakganjeong (sweet and spicy fried chicken), Gangneung sujebi (potato dumpling soup, Gangwon namul bap
(seasoned vegetable rice) and many, many more.

There are many amazing places to visit in Gangwondo. You can visit Mount Seoraksan national park for hiking, you can go
skiing at one of the many ski resorts, you can enjoy the clear, blue ocean on the east coast in for example Gangneung,
Sokcho, Yangyang. You can visit Nami Island, a beautiful half-moon shaped river island. There are many fun and
mysterious caves to visit, peace giving Buddhist temples, alpaca farms, DMZ museum, observatories and so much more.
