UNTAN GODO TREKKING/HIKING COURSES part 1

Roads that connects the abandoned mine areas of Yeongwol, Jeongseon, Taebaek, and Samcheok
Untan Godo has an average of a 546m altitude and 173.2km of length. It starts at Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol and ends at Wishing Tower in Samcheok. Anyone of any age may comfortably walk on the coal vehicle road including Manhangjae Pass in Jeongseon having the highest altitude of 1,330m where you may see traces of mines that led the renaissance of Korea once upon a time.

There's a total of 9 different courses


Course 1, from Untan Godo 1330 Guide Center to Gakdong-ri
Tracking course for reflection, leisure, understanding, and cure
It is a leisurely trekking course that starts at Cheongnyeongpo, where Danjong's soul, who ended his unfortunate life at the young age of 17, and reaches the Go Clan Cave, which retains the mystery of nature 400 million years ago along the flowing Donggang River. Through reflection on the past, it is a way to regain relaxation by walking along the banks of the Donggang River, and the leisurely steps found in this way accumulate one by one to reach the future and to heal through understanding.  

Course 2, from Yeongwol Gakdong-ri to Moun-dong
Winding road of slow Kimsatgat steps 
Walking with Kim Satgat, who lived his life wandering. It is a trekking road that takes a step away from Neulbo Village to think about the meaning of Slow City, takes a breather from Yemilchon, where the scent of well-aged wine comes out, and then climbs a steep path to Moyeongdong, where clouds gather at the foot of Mangyeongdaesan Mountain.


Course 3, from Yeongwol Moun-dong to Jeonseon Yemi Station
Roads to remember the life of the miners.
Visitors start at Moun-dong (Mural Village) in Yeongwol, pass Manggyeongdaesan Mt (1,088m) in (former) Okdong Mining Station along miners’ roads, walk down towards Seokhyang Station (an abandoned station), and arrive at Yemi Station in Jeongseon. It is a heartwarming road where you can feel the meaning and value of Untan High Altitude while trekking.
