The Paju DMZ Docent tour begins by gathering in front of the Pyeonghwa Nuri Ecological Trail Informational Office where we will get an explanation of the Imjingang Riverside Ecological Trail.

Imjingak Resort is known as a unification and security tour location comprising Imjingak Pavilion, North Korea Center, Unification Park, and several meaningful monuments and memorial sites. Additionally, Pyeonghwa Nuri Park hosts many events, performances, and exhibits that promote the overall objective for peace and reunification.

One of the most popular tourist attractions include the Imjingak Peace Land and the National Memorial Hall of the Korean War Abductees. These sites are dedicated to educate the public about the abductions that took place during the Korean war.

After the introduction of important information, we will begin the commentary tour guide and visit the Korean War Abductees Memorial Hall, Jangdan Station Steam Locomotive, and Imjin River Dokgae Bridge. We will be able to understand the history behind these sites with the help of our commentary tour guide.

Beat 131

This a bunker built during the Korean War where you will have an interactive experience.

Inside the bunker, you'll also get an opportunity to write your message for peace and see it on the walls.

 Korean War Abductees Memorial Hall

Korean War Abductees Memorial Hall is operated by the Ministry of Unification and is a space to reflect on the pain of the Korean war and division with the people. This memorial serves as a purpose to strengthen the will for peaceful unification. We can see the pain of the families of those abducted by North Korea through various documents and physical materials and exhibits displayed inside the memorial hall. The memorial holds dearly the stories of those abducted and the families of the abductees and so much more in remembrance of the suffering during the war.

This particular exhibit of a family sitting down to have a meal together. We can see the extra seat and bowl of rice for the head of the family is missing. This image truly speaks louder than words.

Approximately 60% of the artifacts in the memorial hall have been donated by the families of abductees. Families of the abductees kept the kidnapped person’s photos and items and belongings such as diaries even during the war and then donated them.

Jangdan Station Steam Locomotive

The train was officially registered as a historical and cultural heritage in 2004 and has about 1020 bullet holes.

You can see the original form of the railways and how far it takes to reach each places.

This is what remains today and we hope for unification for many reasons. One of the reasons being the restoration of the railways.

Here, you can see the remaining bullets and the railway preserved and displayed under the glass.

Peace Gondola

Then, we will ride the Gondola across to visit Gallery Greaves.

The Pyeonghwa Nuri Park is one of the most popular attractions within the DMZ area.

The Hill of the Wind has 3,000 pinwheels that spin with the wind in its own direction longing for peace. It is perfect to admire them while you hope for peace.
